3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF! Only there were 16 blast-offs! Exciting to be sure, but what made these rocket launches extra special was that each fifth-grader built his/her own rocket, launch pad, and controller from scratch. The whole process involved lessons in physics, astronomy, history, and math; working with drills, saws, screwdrivers, circuitry, and of course, protective eye gear; and the thrill of flight, accompanied by cheers and congratulatory praise. All in all, a long, challenging project well done and a huge sense of shared pride.
