Community Service Projects

Tilden students are active members of their community, undertaking service projects regularly. Here are some of our recent projects!

November 27, 2019: Mary’s Place Donations

A huge THANK-YOU to our generous Tilden community! You made it happen: All Mary’s Place gift tag requests have been fulfilled. Year after year, you step up. On behalf of all the local families who will experience your generosity this holiday season, thank you very much! And an extra shout-out to parent Carol Baltaxe for starting this holiday giving tradition at Tilden, and for signing up our school again this year. Thanks for getting us organized to do good, Carol!

January 7-11, 2019: Donation Drive for WestSide Baby

Many thanks to Mark Thomas, parent of Griffin (5th)! Once again he organized a drive to donate needed items to WestSide Baby; once again, Tilden families stepped up. Carseats, strollers, clothing, diapers, books, and more were donated and are now available for the more than 38,000 children served by WestSide Baby. Thanks to everyone who contributed, and especially to Mark for making it all happen!

November 15, 2018: Mary’s Place holiday gift drive

What can a tiny school with only 100 students do? We can be a force! In only five days our Tilden community removed all 100 giving tags from the Mary’s Place holiday gift drive display, plus there were additional cash and toy donations. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, TILDEN FAMILIES! Your generosity will warm many hearts of homeless children, parents, and grandparents in Seattle this holiday season. ♥

A huge shout-out to fourth-grade parent Carol Baltaxe for once again being the liaison between Tilden and Mary’s Place! She coordinated with Mary’s Place, delivered the gift tags to Tilden, and hauled all your cash and item donations to Mary’s Place, and she did it all with a smile! 🙂

October 21, 2018: Dakota Place Park Fall Cleanup

A huge shout-out to all the Tilden families and staff who volunteered their time and energy to beautify our local park! The Tilden community and neighborhood appreciate all your effort. Thank you!

2018 Food Drive

Recently, the Tilden 1st and 4th graders hosted a food drive to benefit the West Seattle Food Bank. As always, our Tilden families responded with enthusiasm and generosity, filling an SUV to overflowing with donated items.

November 28, 2017: Holiday Giving Tags for Mary’s Place

The Tilden community is sending love to local homeless families through holiday gift donations. By selecting gift tags to fulfill wishes for Mary’s Place families, we’re hoping to bring a little joy and peace this holiday season to local families who have left behind homes and traditions. The need is greater than ever, as the number of families being serviced by Mary’s Place has doubled in just one year. Thank you for donating!

UPDATE: Tilden families rock! Thanks to you, over 100 gifts were donated to Mary’s Place families in three days! THANK YOU!

October 1, 2017: Fall Clean-Up at Dakota Place Park

THANK YOU to the Tilden families (including a couple of alums!) who helped make the park so beautiful! You generously gave of your time, working to make Dakota Place Park a welcoming place for the entire West Seattle community, and you made yard work fun! 🙂

May 13 and June 4, 2017: Volunteer Cleanup at Dakota Place Park

Tilden families joined the school’s neighborhood residents to volunteer at Dakota Place Park for a morning of weeding, pruning, and removal of invasive species and trash. This park, situated across the street from Tilden, now looks more inviting for the whole community to enjoy. Thanks to all the folks who so generously gave their time and effort to care for this much-needed urban green space.
